On The Road To College

By Amber Watts

Some high school seniors are thinking about applying and attempting to get scholarships for college.

“I was always told by my family that college was always mandatory right out of eighth grade and I was always bombarded with going to college and to succeed,” said Andrew Xiong, a senior at Community high school.

Xiong is going to Lawrence University for psychology. He chose to go to that college because he has family that lives by the school, and it’s only one hour and 15 minutes away.

His main reasons for choosing the school is because there is not a lot of students, the neighborhood is good, and plenty of room for personalization and association. He is also the finalist for the Herb Kohl Scholarship.

“When I was a freshman, I wasn’t thinking about college at the time. I didn’t start thinking about it until my junior year because as a freshman, I had lots of work to do and it seemed like a long time away,” said Xiong.

Recent studies show that the top three reasons a college education is good is because it will give you a better quality of life. Another will give you the power to change the world. The other reason will count as an anstonishing accomplishment in your life.

“My dad, Lang Xiong, has had the biggest influence on me because he gave me a broad generalization on why I should go to college, and that going to college will help me support his family and others to come,” said Xiong.
